Dar es Salaam (DAR) International AirportDistance to Beach Crab Resort: 330 km
Dar es Salaam is the largest airport in Tanzania and will be expanded even further. Dar is often a cheap alternative in the main season, when the charter flights to Zanzibar or Kilimanjaro are fully booked. Depending on the travel time, there are already flights from 600.00 € return eg from Emirates via Dubai from many cities in Germany. DAR Airport is 10km outside the city center, a taxi costs $ 30 to downtown. The visa for Tanzania you can buy for $ 50 without problems in the airport at the Immigration Office.
Dar es Salaam is served by, among others, the following airlines:
KLM (via Amsterdam); Ethiopian Airlines (via Addis Ababa); Emirates (via Dubai); Swiss (via Zurich); British Airways (via London); Egypt Air (via Cairo), Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul)
Continue from Dar es SalaamWith your own vehicle or rental car:a) via Saadani National Park with $ 35 entry fee per person plus vehicle. As you cross marshes and small rivers you should only go in the dry season in the rain, you definitely need a four-wheel drive, if you can get through. Call us first, then we can tell you if you can drive right now or not. From Dar es Salaam - Bagamoyo - direction Msata. Caution right about 12km to Bagamoyo roundabout (branch and signs to Saadani are barely visible, gravel and clay piste) If it rains only with four-wheel drive and in the dry season with any car in the Saadani NP then you come across the Wami Gate - further Saadani Village - then towards Mkwaja / Pangani -27km- on a hill in the sisal plantations branch beach piste (follow the signs to Ushongo) -5km- Ushongob) via Mkata / better for the dry season, but very "rough".221km asphalt to Mkata, then 107km piste to Ushongo - driving time approx. 6hDar es Salaam -106km- Chalinze (big crossroads, right to Arusha & Tanga) -115km- or via Bagamoyo and Msata to Mkata (attention branch is not signposted / in the middle of the village turn right onto a dirt road) -75km- Mkwaja / Pangani -27km- branch in the sisal plantation to the right down the beach (follow the signs to Ushongo) -5km- Ushongoc) via Muheza / well prepared, almost always passable317km asphalt to Muheza, then 61km piste to Ushongo - driving time ca.6,5hDar es Salaam -106km- Chalinze (big intersection, turn right to Arusha & Tanga) -177km- (or via Bagamoyo and Msata) Segera (big crossroads, right to Tanga & Mombasa) -34km- Muheza (in Muheza turn right at the weathered sign 'PANGANI' from the asphalt road onto a piste) -45km- Pangani (River crossing in Pangani, ferry leaves from 6am to 9pm) -16km-Ushongo (after the village of Mwera keep left and follow the signs of the hotels)d) via Tanga / the safest route for the rainy season354km asphalt to Tanga, then 61km piste to Ushongo - approx. 7hDar es Salaam -106km- Chalinze (big crossroads, right to Arusha & Tanga) -177km- Segera (big crossing right to Tanga & Mombasa) -34km- Muheza -37km- Tanga (about 5km south of Tanga the asphalt stops) -45km- Pangani (river crossing in Pangani, ferry leaves from 6am to 9pm) -16km- Ushongo (after the village of Mwera keep left and follow the signs of the hotels)Public transportationa) In Dar es Salaam several buses leave daily for Tanga. The main bus terminal in Dar is called Ubungo. We recommend you eg Raha Leo or Ratco Express, both cost around 20.000TZS and arrive about 6 hours later in Tanga. You are no longer in the Tanga center with the big buses, but in Kange on a newly built bus terminal. 10 km outside the city. Here, the individual bus companies have either small shuttle buses or drive Dalla Dallas of Kange to the local bus terminal in 11th Street. Buses or Dallas Dallas drive to Pangani (2 hours) every day between 08:00 and 17:00, and two busses even on weekdays across the river to Mwera (arrival from 12:00).
But we also offer a taxi that picks you up from the large bus terminal in Kange and brings you directly to Beach Crab Resort. The taxi costs 120,000 TZS for the car. It fits up to 5 people with luggage in this Toyota Noah. Please let me know in advance if you want this taxi.
From Pangani:
You must definitely cross the river. It drives a 'big' car ferry (200 shillings) from 6 to 21 clock (usually).
Sometimes you have to wait a while to get started. (If the ferry should stop driving you can still cross the river as a pedestrian with wooden boats, you just have to make it clear at the ferry dock that you want over) On the other side you are in the district Bweni. Unfortunately, there are no Dallas Dallas on this side of the river that drive to us on the beach. So you have to either look for a nice ride on the ferry, call yourself a Boda Boda (Piki Piki - motorcycle taxis, about 10,000TZS per bike) or our front desk to order a (car) taxi. The drivers (unfortunately there are only 2 on our side of the river) take $ 30 for the 16km up to us. Just call in advance at: 0784 543700 or 0767 543700.
